Friday Night

Lee O’Donnell dominated the field of 8 Monster Jam trucks at CONSOL Energy Center tonight as he drove Ironman to victories in wheelies, racing, and freestyle.

Ironman edged out Xtermigator to take the early win then marched through the bracket taking out Instigator easily to face Xtermigator in the semi-finals. Ironman took the victory by the narrow tread of a tire to move on to the championship round of racing to face Grave Digger. Gary Porter piloted the black and green wrecking machine past Ice Cream Man and narrowly edging out a very fast Jay Snyder in Illuminator. Grave Digger and Ironman staged and the lights stayed red for what seemed like a long time before both veterans promptly left the line in the hunt for the championship. It took two slow motion replays to determine that Ironman edged out Grave Digger to take win number 2.

With all the exciting action of the first half of the show plus some extra added mojo courtesy of some veteran FMX riders, the arena was rockin and ready for Monster Jam Fox Sports 1 Freestyle. Ice Cream Man set the mark to beat at 17 only to be bested by teammate JR McNeal in Xtermigator whose run of big air was impressive. Ironman hit the floor with a very vertical technical run that caught the attention of the judges who awarded the truck a 23 to take the lead from Xtermigator. Whit Tarlton piloted Monster Mutt around the floor catching air and keeping a constant level of momentum during the run that no other truck had accomplished. The run lacked in technical performance though and only earned a 20. Left in the pits to run was Porter’s Grave Digger. Goosing the throttle, the truck launched to the floor and never stopped moving in continuous fluid motions during the course of the run. Wheelies and pop and drops filled the 60 second time clock and Grave Digger spin into an impressive donut AFTER the time had expired so it could not be counted towards the run. With that taken into consideration, Grave Digger earned a 22 from the judges and landed in the runner up position for the night and Ironman took home the last of all the trophies.

Saturday Afternoon

Grave Digger Doubled Down this afternoon as Gary Porter drove the black and green wrecking machine ng to near flawless standards at the CONSOL Energy Center.

The night wasn’t looking so good for Grave Digger during the Monster Jam Wheelie competition with a lackluster performance that earned a fifth place finish way behind Ironman driven by Lee O’Donnell who was the clear winner with a well-deserved 26 after impressing the judges with high flying action. But Grave Digger cut quick lights and scooted across the cars quickly to earn a sport in the championship road race after taking out Ice Cream Man and Illuminator. Ironman marched through the bracket past Instigator and Xtermigator to make it to the final round. With so much experience on the line, the fans knew they were in for a showdown. The lights dropped and it was even stevens to the line with the officials having to go to the instant replay to determine…Grave Digger took the win!

With the thrill of the FMX riders lingering in the air after intermission, Ice Cream Man set the standard for Monster Jam Fox Sports Freestyle by popping and dropping and cruising consistently during the 60 second run to set the score to beat at 21. The score held until Amalie Oil Xtermigator hit the floor and then tied the run. Ironman then impressed the judges with giant leaps and quick turns to take the lead with a 23. Monster Mutt was barking around the course on the way to take the lead when the truck launched off the big ramp with the rear steer crooked and pogoed on the landing flopping over to the side. Since the run was cut short, the score from the judges was only a 20. Grave Digger was the only truck left and Porter made sure that the fans were impressed by popping and dropping and ending the run with the combination of big air and an amazing dirt digging donut that had the fans on their feet. The judges agreed and awarded Grave Digger the win with a score of 26.

Saturday Night

Illuminator lit up the CONSOL Energy Center with a near clean sweep of all competitions taking the trophy in wheelies, racing and was narrowly edged out during freestyle by the black and green wrecking machine, Grave Digger.
The Monster Jam Wheelie Competition kicked off the Monster Jam presented by the Air Force Reserve exciting the fans and building momentum with each truck. As the third truck out in competition, Illuminator set the score to beat at 21 with a set of sharp vertical wheelies that score technical points with the judges. No other competitor came close to scoring as high as Illuminator, except for Ironman who performed wheelies that covered more distant but were less technical. While the fans were in disagreement, the judges had the final say and awarded the trophy to Illuminator.

Illuminator then worked through the bracket past Zombie and Ice Cream Man to face Instigator in the Championship Round of Racing. Instigator was awesome blowing out Ironman in round one and then edging out Monster Mutt to head the finals. In a close contest, it was Illuminator who prevailed as the victor taking home victory number two on the night.

Ice Cream Man kicked off Monster Jam Fox Sports Freestyle with a solid run and was on the way to setting a stellar score until the truck was shut off suddenly due to some mechanical damage to the shocks on the truck. Instigator came out next flying high, turning fast and soaring off the center ramp to set the mark to beat at 21. While it seemed like that mark would hold for a while, Illuminator came out blazing and stepped it up a notch. The turns of the truck were sharper and the launches higher than the previous trucks earning a 22. That score held until Gary Porter piloted Grave Digger to the course. Spectacular donuts bookended the run that included short bursts of donuts and that signature Grave Digger style. Porter stopped the truck in the middle of the track to the roar of the crowd and the recognition of the judges who awarded the run a 24 for the win.

Sunday Afternoon

Instigator stole the show in the wheelie competition and Grave Digger doubled down on the afternoon during the last show of the weekend at CONSOL Energy Center.

Instigator started the Monster Jam Wheelie competition with a whiz and then a big bang as the truck only made one awesomely impressive attempt during the contest.  Paul Breaud eased the truck to the competition lane and then goosed the throttle heartily onto the steep ramp to launch the truck straight into the air with a slight rotation backward.  As the truck was coming down, the rotation continued bypassing the wheelie bar and the truck landed on the tailgate before flopping over on its side.  Breaud prevailed without a scratch but the truck was then missing half of its body.  Zombie was the next truck to challenge the attempt of Instigator with two text book wheelies that lacked the height and spectacle of Instigator’s landing.  As the final competitor, Iron Man made two awesome wheelies that had some height but lots of travel over the stacks.  Both Zombie and Iron Man fell just short of the score to beat       with 24s and Instigator prevailed victorious.

While Breaud and Instigator were able to bask in the glory of the victory for one round of racing, that would be it for the Pennsylvania native.  The black and green machine piloted by Gary Porter was too quick off the lights for all competitors easily making it into the finals against Monster Mutt who was appearing in its first Championship Round of racing on the weekend.  Grave Digger was still just too fast for Monster Mutt and took home the second racing championship of the weekend.

In Monster Jam Fox Sports 1 Freestyle, Illuminator impressed the fans and the judges as the third truck out in competition.  The run was filled with constant movement, a donut and one big air launch.  The score of 22 for Illuminator would hold until the final truck of competition hit the floor.  Grave Digger launched to the floor with a wheelie followed by air, quick turns, big air and ended the regulation run with an awesome donut.  Porter then parked Grave Digger on top of the big air ramp and climbed to the roof of the truck to the thundering crowd and the winning score of 25.
