Saturday 2pm

The start of the Monster Jam season started off with a bang. This was one of the biggest crowds Birmingham has ever seen. Eight of the world's best Monster Jam trucks were ready to give the fans an amazing show. On top of all of upcoming events, fans got to see a Metro PCS Quad War Challenge, which pitted Team Auburn vs. Team Alabama and two lawn mower races.

The afternoon events started off with the Monster Jam Wheelie Competition. Monster Energy and first time driver Coty Saucier held the lead through the first three trucks with an 18. His lead didn't last too long as Randy Moore and his War Wizard were then in first with a 23. The second to last truck to go was 2012 Young Guns Shootout winner, Bari Musawwir and Spider-Man. Bari impressed the judges with some big air on his wheelies to net a 25. Last but certainly not least it was Pablo Huffaker in his brand new Grave Digger that would get the scores that he needed to win the Monster Jam Wheelie competition with a 27.

Then it was on to the Monster Jam Racing competition. In round one we saw long time driver Scott Hartsock and his Gunslinger takeout Spider-Man. Monster Energy would receive a bye to the second round due to Fatal Attraction having some electrical problems. Grave Digger defeated Strait Jacket to advance to the second round. Wolverine edged out War Wizard in a close race to move on as well. After the semifinals, we were left with only two trucks for our Monster Jam Championship Round Race. Grave Digger won by inches over Scott Hartsock and Gunslinger.

Finally the highlight of the day was Grave Digger winning the Double Down trophy by winning racing and the Monster Jam Fox Sports Freestyle with a high score of 25. Spider-Man was in a close second with a score of 24 followed by Monster Energy in third place with a score of 17.

Saturday 7:30pm

The evening crowd was fired up from the start of their Monster Jam show beginning with the Monster Jam Wheelie Competition. Bari Musawwir and Spider-Man took home the first trophy of the night by defeating second place finisher Grave Digger by one point with a score of 25. From there the crowd quickly turned to a new favorite Monster Jam truck in Spider-Man, which gave him the momentum to take it in to Monster Jam Racing.

As the bracket was set prior to the show by a number draw, the drivers knew the fans would be in for great head to head racing competition. The first race saw Spider-Man take that momentum and defeat Wolverine by inches with numerous instant replays just to call the winner. He then would take out Gunslinger in the semifinals to meet Grave Digger for the Monster Jam Championship Racing Round. In the finals Grave Digger would seem to have the edge after winning this afternoon’s championship, but that wasn’t true. Bari would inch out his second victory of the night and set himself up for the Double Down. Grave Digger made it to the finals with victories over Fatal Attraction in round one and Monster Energy in the semifinals.

The Monster Jam Fox Sports Freestyle had some awesome highlights as four Monster Jam Trucks score above 20 to make it a tight competition. One memorable highlight was the first ever power wheelie seen at the BJCC Arena by Scott Hartsock in Gunslinger. Coty Saucier put himself on the map of Young Guns to watch this year with a score of 21 to set the bar higher for the rest of the field. Grave Digger would end the night with the highest score of a 25 to give his fourth trophy for the weekend.

Sunday 2pm

The last show of the weekend in Birmingham was nothing but spectacular. After winning Saturday’s Wheelie competition, Bari Musawwir and Spider-Man, were primed to win the title again with a score of 24. Long time Monster Jam driver, Pablo Huffaker and Grave Digger, would have something to say about that as Grave Digger would beat out Spider-Man with a championship score of 27.

The afternoon crowd was treated to the final and most heated Metro PCS Quad Wars Challenge with Team Alabama winning over Team Auburn. After that the high powered lawn mowers came to show the crowd the extreme horsepower that they each have with two races.

Monster Jam Racing was up next with all eight Monster Jam Trucks fired and ready to race. Spider-Man would have made his second final in a row, but due to technical problems, Gunslinger would advance from the semifinals to challenge long time champion Pablo Huffaker and Grave Digger. Pablo and his lifetime of experience would tackle another Monster Jam Racing Championship by crossing the finish line first.

As we drew nearer to the Monster Jam Fox Sports Freestyle Competition, Grave Digger was in command to take home the Double Down trophy. Monster Energy and Coty Saucier continued to impress during his rookie season with a third place score of 20. Finishing in second place in a rolled over Spider-Man from a sky flying jump by Bari Musawwir, he would take a score of a 23. Completing the Double Down trophy of the Sunday show by winning the Monster Jam Fox Sports Freestyle, it was Pablo Huffaker and Grave Digger.
