Friday Night

A frigid January evening greeted Monster Jam fans with mounds of snow on the ground, and winds whipping through downtown Rochester, New York at the Blue Cross Arena for the first weekend of the 2014 Monster Jam Season. Fans of all ages piled into the shelter and warmth of Blue Cross Arena to see six of the world’s best Monster Jam Drivers go head to head in a thrilling night of high octane, torqued up, Monster Jam action. When the evening kicked off, the stands were filled with spectators there to see one of the greatest shows in motor sports entertainment, and this one would be “as BIG as it gets!” The 2014 Monster Jam season is underway, promising to deliver a show that is bigger and better than ever, and fans in Rochester were not disappointed.

The evening kicked off with an intense Monster Jam Wheelie competition. Four of the six trucks all impressed the judges putting up a total of 20 points or more on the Monster Jam Media Board, but in the end, only one truck could take home the first place prize. Whit Tarlton in Monster Mutt was the man for the job! He popped his puppy up in the air and over the row of crush cars waiting, and scored an impressive 25 points. Gary Porter and Grave Digger came in a close second with 23 points, and rounding out the top three was Jay Snyder in Illuminator with 22 points. The stage was set for an intense night of competition!

After the Monster Jam Wheelie competition, fans were treated to a furiously fast night of racing. In round one of Monster Jam Racing, we saw Monster Mutt edge out Aftershock, Illuminator overtook Rap Attack, and Grave Digger sped past Krazy Train all to move on to the semi finals. With six trucks in the field, to round out the racing semi-finals bracket, the fast loser of round one also advanced, treating Monster Jam Fans to another look at one of the fan favorites in tonight’s show, Illuminator.

On to the Monster Jam Racing Semi Finals! Monster Mutt would once again advance driving right past Rap Attack, and Grave Digger would breeze by Illuminator to move on to the Monster Jam Championship Race. The final show down would happen when the racing lights turned green and both Grave Digger and Monster Mutt stepped on the gas, and sent their trucks hurling across the finish line with Gary Porter and Grave Digger crossing the line in victory.

Monster Jam fans were on the edges of their seats as we moved on to the Monster Jam Donut competition. Unfortunately the cold had taken a toll on some of our Monster Jam trucks causing all kinds of mechanical problems for several teams. Krazy Train, Rap Attack, and Monster Mutt all suffered mechanical failures as they tried to twist their trucks into the ground for the screaming fans in Rochester. Monster Mutt suffered the worst problem of the evening, as a transmission issue would eliminate him from competition for the duration of the night. Gary Porter and Grave Digger were not able to compete in the event at all, as a rear steering issued crippled the black and green wrecking machine! The crew members worked feverishly to get the truck fixed and back in time for Monster Jam Freestyle. In the mean time, one truck reigned supreme as Bob Robbins in Aftershock was able to impress the judges enough to put 20 points on the Monster Jam Media board, and take home the winning trophy in the Monster Jam Donut Competition.

The culmination of the night, and of course the fan favorite was the Monster Jam Fox Sports Freestyle Competition. Only four trucks would compete for the fans as Rap Attack and Monster Mutt were not able to fix their trucks in time for the event. Grave Digger however would get his truck running and able to take the track, but steering issues kept his score low only putting up 12 points on the scorecard from the judges. In the end Jay Snyder and Illuminator took home the winning score of 24 with some impressive hits on the crash cars, and a few hard to come by donuts for the fans! Aftershock would finish second with 21 points, and in a distant third Krazy Train with 17.

All in all a great evening of Monster Jam action to kick of the 2014 season in Rochester! Fans were on their feet for the majority of the show as all of the drivers of Monster Jam worked hard to put on a show worthy of saying, Monster Jam 2014 is as BIG as it gets!

Saturday Night

Another Saturday night has come and gone in Rochester New York, but it didn’t go quietly into the night. The superstars of Monster Jam once again put on a performance worthy of saying, it is as BIG as it gets! Six Monster Jam teams came out to play, and play hard. Fans were not disappointed as the competition heated up fast at the Blue Cross Arena.

We began the evening with the Monster Jam Wheelie competition. All the drivers came out and drove hard trying to win that Wheelie Championship Trophy. Dave Rappach and Rap Attack put up and incredible start to a wheelie, only to come down wrong and eventually landed on his side, taking him out of the nights competition. It wasn’t all for not however, as he impressed the judges with 27 points being put up on the Monster Jam Media Board. Several other drivers came close, like Whit Tarlton in Monster Mutt, who scored a respectable 24, but it was Gary Porter and Grave Digger who would take the cake with an impressive run, and a total of 28 points to win.

After wheelies, fans were treated to lighting fast Monster Jam Racing. Rap Attack was not able to come back, and round one of racing saw more challenges for our Monster Jam Trucks, as mechanical issues would eventually take out Illuminator and Aftershock for racing as well. The Monster Jam Championship Race would come down to Grave Digger and Monster Mutt. When the dust settled and everything was done, Gary Porter would drive Grave Digger across the start finish line first to take the win once again in Monster Jam Racing.

After a brief intermission, the action returned to the floor of the Blue Cross Arena, as we kicked of Monster Jam Donuts. Four of the six trucks originally in the field would compete with Grave Digger once again putting on a performance that had the fans screaming for more! When the judges tallied the score cards, it was Grave Digger driver Gary Porter who would win with 25 points just edging out Jay Snyder and Illuminator who held the top spot with 22 for most of the night.

Finally we wrapped up the show with an incredible Monster Jam Fox Sports Freestyle! All the Monster Jam trucks drove hard, and impressed the fans with donuts, wheelies, and some car crushing carnage! It seemed as the night went on, each driver just tried to outdo the other, and the scores from our judges reflected it. Monster Mutt and Grave Digger battled all night for the top spot and the Monster Jam Fox Sports Freestyle was no exception! Grave Digger would Double Down winning freestyle tonight with a total of 26 points just edging out the Monster Mutt once again! For Gary Porter it would be the first Double Down of 2014!

Sunday 2:00PM

The Blue Cross Arena in Rochester, New York was on fire this afternoon, as all six of the Monster Jam Trucks scheduled to compete, overcame the cold and mechanical issues that went with it. An electrifying display of competition delighted fans young and old alike as Gary Porter and Grave Digger would Double Down winning racing and Freestyle again for a second day in a row.

The night started with a hard-hitting Monster Jam Wheelie Competition that showed fans why Monster Jam is as BIG as it gets! Only one point separated first, second, and third place when all was said and done. Grave Digger scored 23 points, Monster Mutt 24, and Dave Rappach and Rap Attack would hold on to the lead that he established early and win with a total of 25!

The Monster Jam Wheelies set the stage for the next event, Monster Jam Racing. In round one Monster Mutt would defeat Krazy Train, Rap Attack would lose to Illuminator, and Grave Digger would bury Aftershock, all to move on to the Monster Jam Semi Finals Racing Round. Rap Attack would return as our fast loser, and take on Monster Mutt first, only to lose by a nose! Then Illuminator would return to the racing lanes facing Gary Porter and Grave Digger! Digger would pass by the Illuminator and win in the Semi Finals Racing Round.

The Fox Sports Racing Finals Race were set with Monster Mutt and Grave Digger, and when the green light flashed at the Monster Jam Drivers, they put the hammer down on the gas pedal and raced their Monster Jam Trucks down to the finish with Gary Porter and Grave Digger taking a racing win for the second day in a row.

After a brief intermission, our Monster Jam Trucks returned for Monster Jam Donuts! The drivers amazed the fans once again twisting their trucks around on the slick concrete floor of the Blue Cross Arena. Unfortunately, Jay Snyder and Illuminator would not make the deadline set by the officials to get into the competition as they were repairing the Illuminator Monster Jam Truck from a mechanical issue in the rear steering. Aftershock and Monster Mutt were neck in neck for the win with 20 and 18 points, but it was the Black and Green Wrecking Machine of Gary Porter, driving Grave Digger to his second trophy of the afternoon with a total of 26.

The culmination of the weekend of carnage here in Rochester, was the Monster Jam Fox Sports Freestyle. Fans were delighted to see Illuminator make a return to compete against the other Monster Jam Drivers! The competition was close with 5 of the 6 Monster Jam Trucks putting 20 points or more up on the Monster Jam Media Board! In the end however, it was a high flying, gas guzzling, and car wrecking performance from Gary Porter once again, as he would take Grave Digger to victory, and another double down, with 26 points for the win.
