This year we kicked off Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam this weekend in Denver by adding yet another event to the line-up. Carl Van Horn kicked off the weekend by taking the yet another Wheelie Championship.

Coming into tonight’s event, Van Horn brought with him a 33-4 arena racing record, and a #1 overall standing. It became evident that Carl has truly earned the standing when he took out one of the 2,000hp RAM trucks in the first round, and then the other in the Semi’s. In order to take the Championship, he had to line up against and take down one of the fast rising stars in Becky McDonough. She came into the weekend riding high on the announcement that she would again be competing in the Young Guns Shootout during World Finals weekend. She forced a second, and then a third look at the replay, but in the end Carl’s determination to capture yet another checkered flag was just too much to overcome.

In tonight’s ‘Service is our Best Part’ Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam Freestyle Competition, Scooby-Doo came out and moved the bar to the next level. But then it was Seasock in Grinder that came out and simply destroyed the bar. A bit upset that a simple battery connection had taken him out of racing, John vented in a very entertaining way. He found a way to cross-thread the track in two different directions, which won over a big part of the crowd. As great as it was, though, it was the high flying, non-stop Grave Digger style that took the competition, and brought Carl the Double Down for the night.

Today’s Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam show began right where we left off last night, with Carl Van Horn taking a championship.

Monster Jam Racing began to look just like last night, until the very end that is. Grinder turned in the fastest run of the day to advance to the Semi’s. Raminator took out the first of two trucks from last night UTI Championship Round with a decisive victory over El Toro Loco in the first round. To take home the title, he would have to beat the other truck from last night’s final -- the same truck that bounced him out last night in round one. Not at all unlikely to expect different results today given the change in the truck’s set up after last night’s show. The high altitude effects made the adjustments necessary. The RAM team felt that they finally had it dialed in properly today. And, they were right! Although the house went to a replay, it really wasn’t needed. The clear racing champ was Raminator.

In tonight’s ‘Service is our Best Part’ Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam Freestyle Competition, the incredible cyclones seemed to be the crowd favorite, and the difference between the top two and the rest of the pack. The competition got off to a fast start with Incinerator posting a score that many thought would stand till late in the round. After two more high scores being turned in, Grinder put down the first of two cyclones. John went into it with 15 seconds left on the clock, and kept spinning at a high rate of speed until the clock hit 0. Digger then laid down an equally impressive cyclone, coming out of it just before the truck flipped over on to its lid. Carl had a few seconds remaining, so he utilized it for one more hit, complete with some huge air. It was the difference, and just what he needed to claim his second title of the weekend.

As we began the night for Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam, it was the Great Dane that took center stage. Nicole bounced Scooby-Doo off its tail, onto its nose, and then back onto all fours. No question it was the most dramatic Wheelie of the evening.

Monster Jam Racing featured rematches of the best races of the weekend. Both Raminator and Digger were gunning for a second UTI Championship Round victory. Both had their chance as they staged for the final race. The replay showed clearly that Diggers tires were the first to fly across the finish line.

In tonight’s ‘Service is our Best Part’ Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam Freestyle Competition, it was again the incredible cyclones that racked up the points. However, it was something far more dramatic that provided the edge that led to victory. With Grinder in the Hot Seat with the high score, Digger took to the track. It was a great run, again complete with a crowd-on-their-feet cyclone. With just seconds left, Carl took aim at the van stack for one last hit. He didn’t have the time to line it up properly, but obviously didn’t care – he went full throttle anyway. After hitting the stack off center, Digger launched into the air and landed on its side for a truly memorable conclusion to the night. No question about it, Carl earned his second Double Down of the weekend.

Two years ago, in her former ride, Nicole Johnson dominated racing in Denver, going undefeated to claim the championships. Since that time, this has been a special place for her. She returned here this weekend with her brand new Scooby-Doo absolutely determined to take home a racing title. In today’s Monster Jam Racing she earned a shot after dominating in the first two rounds. In the UTI Championship round she found herself facing one of the two RAM trucks – neither of which she’d been able to beat all weekend. It was a case of Determination over Horse Power, as Johnson claimed yet another racing championship in the Mile High City.

In today’s ‘Service is our Best Part’ Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam Freestyle Competition, we made it extra special for the Monster Jam Fans by cutting the race ramps extra sharp. Each time a Monster Jam Truck hit the ramps, they were launched straight into the air. It was an exciting way to wrap up a great weekend. John Seasock in Grinder once again did enough to get the win, if he were in just about any other show. But this weekend Carl Van Horn was just too dialed in to this track. He knew exactly how to cut the track to maintain a high-speed run from start to finish. No doubt that this gave him the edge that led to four straight championships this weekend.
